Colorado Off-Grid Cabin
This Off-Grid system is hidden in a below ground concrete enclosure, located somewhere in Colorado. The enclosure was constructed in 6 sections and pieced together on site. Pre-made holes on each side allowed for conduit/cable runs from the solar array to the underground equipment and another from the equipment to the electrical panel in the cabin. The owner had a small outbuilding built over the above ground enclosure for easy access during inclement weather and added protection for the equipment. It was located close to the solar array for optimal wiring.
This system packs a lot of power with two Victron Energy 48V/5000 Quattros and three 7.4 kWh Discover lithium batteries (in Closed Loop Communications). The two Lynx Power Ins (modular busbars) make the transition from the inverters to batteries easy. Moniotring is capable via Bluetooth and the Victron VRM Portal, and is accessible remotely.
Above ground is 4.7 kW on an MT Solar top of pole mount solar array. MT Solar is our go to for Solar Mounts in stationary applications. We can really see that this piece of equipment was designed and built with the installer in mind. From extra nuts and washers to the smartly packaged pallet.
Energy efficient appliances complete the small cabin. Efficiency is so important in any off-grid situtaion. Appliances include Energy Star equipment such as refrigerator, stove and microwave. A mini-split for heating and cooling also compliments the efficiency of the overall house.
